Voyager’s sixth location in San Jose continues the brand’s commitment to creating destinations that feel anything but ordinary. Taking over a compact 1,000-square-foot former seafood restaurant, Studio BANAA transformed the space into an award-winning vibrant micro-café that goes all out on color – a bold progression of Voyager’s unique identity.

Taking cues from Matisse’s paper cut-outs and the bold geometry of 1980s Italian Memphis design, Studio BANAA treated every surface – walls, floor, ceiling, counter – as part of a single connected canvas. Nothing wasted. Nothing neutral. A seemingly random arranging of elements that somehow holds together completely.

At the heart of the space, a sculptural coffee bar clad in pink perforated metal commands attention from every angle. Its cylindrical, skirted form organizes the flow of customers and staff alike, its integrated shelving keeping the compact back-of-house invisible. Lacquer and powder-coat finishes bring depth to every high-touch surface – elevating the simple act of ordering a coffee into a sensory experience.

Curves repeat throughout – in scalloped pendant lights, a squiggle LED inset overhead, wavy wall trims echoed at the window ledges, and cushioned benches paired with blue steel tables. Soft lines promote openness and keep the space feeling generous despite its size.
Small in footprint, large in presence, the San Jose location embodies what Voyager has always believed: that a great coffee shop is a place worth seeking out, lingering in, and coming back to.

Two custom murals anchor the walls, their abstracted forms drawn from topographic maps of Brazil and Ethiopia, the origins of Voyager’s premium bean roasts. Rendered in saturated blues, greens, and coral, they are less literal geography than imagined landscapes: an invitation to travel through taste and place.
The San Jose location earned Studio BANAA top honors at the 2026 rd+d Awards, taking home Best Limited-Service Restaurant Design from a national field of competitors. The rd+d Awards recognize the most outstanding food and beverage design in the country, judged by a panel of industry leaders across architecture, interiors, and hospitality.
Judges singled out the project for its distinct point of view and the confidence with which it was executed, praising it as fresh, cohesive, and fully realized. The compact floorplan was noted as exceptionally well-utilized, and the bar received special recognition as a standout element. In the judges’ own words, the team “set out and achieved their project goals” – a fitting summation of what Studio BANAA brings to every project.
